Cadillac Mountain is the most popular and iconic location within Acadia National Park to catch the sunrise. Standing at 1,530 feet (466 meters), it is the highest point along the eastern coast of the United States. Due to its elevation, Cadillac Mountain provides an unparalleled vantage point to witness the first light of the day in the country.
To make the most of this experience, keep the following in mind:
- Arrive Early: Cadillac Mountain is a popular spot for sunrise viewing, so arriving early is essential to secure a good viewing spot. During peak seasons, it’s recommended to arrive at least 1 to 1.5 hours before sunrise to secure parking and find a comfortable spot.
- Check Sunrise Times: Consult the local weather forecast or online resources to determine the exact time of sunrise on the day of your visit. Plan to arrive well in advance to allow time for parking and setting up your viewing spot.
- Dress Warmly: The early mornings on Cadillac Mountain can be chilly, even during the summer months. Dress in layers and bring a warm jacket, hat, and gloves to stay comfortable while you wait for the sunrise.
- No trailers, RVs, or vehicles over 21′ are allowed on the road up to Cadillac Mountain.
Reservations are now required to access the road up to Cadillac Mountain between May and October!
- The reservation fee is $6, and park permits are also required.
- Reservations for sunrise have a 90 minute entry window, and you may stay until 10pm that day.
- There is no re-entry.
- Only one sunrise reservation will be granted per car during a seven day window.
- A portion of permits will be available 90 days in advance of the reservation date. The rest of the permits will be available at 10am two days in advance of the reservation date.
